Brotherwise Games Stormlight Gargantuan Chasmfiend
The Stormlight Gargantuan Chasmfiend is an impressive, massive miniature inspired by Brandon Sanderson's acclaimed "The Stormlight Archive" series. This finely crafted figure, produced by Brotherwise Games, captures the awe-inspiring presence and intricate details of the chasmfiend, a formidable creature from the Shattered Plains. Part of the Brotherwise Games Premium Miniatures Kickstarter campaign, this unpainted figure stands at 5.7 inches (145 mm) tall, making it an exceptional piece for collectors, painters, tabletop RPG players, and fans of Sanderson's books.
Details
Chasmfiends, also known as "ulo mas vara" to the Parshendi, are colossal, crustacean-like creatures that inhabit the chasms of the Shattered Plains. These greatshells serve as the source of gemhearts, large and valuable gemstones hunted by humans. Chasmfiends grow up to fifty feet tall and have a hard, protective exoskeleton of interlocking carapace in the color of dark, violet ink. They possess 14 trunk-like legs, 4 wicked, horse-sized foreclaws, a dozen smaller legs, and a flattened tail. Their twisted, arrowhead-like face features uniform green eyes and a mouth full of barbed mandibles, which contribute to their deep, overlapping, trumpeting voices.
Every chasmfiend grows a gemstone inside called a gemheart. These gemstones are unusually large and extremely valuable compared to those of other known greatshells. The chasmfiend’s life cycle involves seeking a wider plateau, climbing up, and forming a pupa, making them vulnerable during highstorms. Plunging a Shardblade into the chrysalis would kill the pupating creature but avoid damaging the gemheart region.
Small glowing spren resembling arrows dance around live chasmfiends, providing a source of light. These spren drift away and vanish like plumes of smoke. Shallan recognizes these spren when they dance around a live chasmfiend she encounters with Kaladin in a chasm. In a spanreed conversation between Dalinar and Jasnah, Shallan copies a depiction of a Voidbringer in one of Jasnah’s books. The chasmfiend’s appearance is reminiscent of what a Voidbringer might look like.
