What Is the MTG x Marvel Super Heroes Set?

This premium Universes Beyond expansion focuses on Earth-based Marvel characters like the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and various iconic villains. Players can build decks around legendary heroes and mastermind villains, each designed to feel true to their comic personalities.

Hero & Villain Highlights

Heroes Already Previewed

  • Captain America, Super-Soldier – Shield counters and protection for your entire board.

  • Bruce Banner / The Incredible Hulk – Card draw as Banner, damage-scaling stats as Hulk.

  • Quicksilver, Brash Blur – First look at the new Power-Up mechanic.

  • Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur – Artifact/“invention” synergies.

Villains Featured

  • Doctor Doom—Indestructible when supported by artifact creatures or Plan cards.

  • Namor, Super-Skrull, Baron Zemo are villain tribal and synergy pieces.

  • Galactus—Appears via a Saga culminating in a 16/16 Elder Alien token.

New MTG Mechanics: Power-Up, Plan Cards & Sagas

Power-Up

A once-per-game enhancement that adds permanent counters or abilities, with costs reduced on the turn the creature enters. Great for “superhero entrance” moments.

Plan Enchantments

Brand-new enchantments representing villain schemes.
Example: Doom Reigns Supreme collects plan counters and eventually lets you cast spells from an opponent’s deck for free.

Sagas Return

Comic-style storytelling in card form:

  • World War Hulk—Free creature casting and huge buffs.

  • The Coming of Galactus—Ends with a devastating 16/16 land-destroying attacker.

Commander Decks: Fantastic Four and More

The first preconstructed deck revealed is the Fantastic Four four-color (WURG) Commander deck. All four members appear in the box, though you choose only one to lead the deck.

More decks are expected, such as:

  • Avengers Commander deck

  • Defenders Commander deck

  • Villains/Thanos Infinity Stones deck

More details will be added as product information becomes available.

Collector-Friendly Comic Book Treatments

Marvel-inspired card treatments include:

  • Classic Comic variants

  • Borderless panel-style art

  • A bonus sheet of MTG reprints with Marvel art (Heroic Intervention, Ephemerate, Horn of Greed, etc.)

These variants heavily target both collectors and longtime Marvel fans.
