Adeptus Custodes FAQ
What is the best Adeptus Custodes kit to start with?
The Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol is the usual starting point: one box with a ready-made force and a clear next step into a bigger army. Add Custodian Wardens and a Shield-Captain next.
Are the new 2026 Custodes kits for Warhammer 40,000 or The Horus Heresy?
Both. The October 2026 wave (Aquilon Terminators, Gyrfalcon Jetbikes, Telemon Heavy Dreadnought, Pallas Grav-Attack) was released as legal in both games. We list them on the Legio Custodes page; details are in our Custodes release guide.
Is Adeptus Custodes a good army for beginners?
It is one of the easiest 40K armies to get started with because the force is small: fewer kits to buy, build and paint before your first game. The trade-off is that every model matters, so losing a unit hurts more than it does in a horde army.
Do you ship Adeptus Custodes kits?
Yes. Every kit on this page ships from New Jersey, and U.S. orders over $99 ship free.
Can I see the kits in person?
Yes. Our store at 35 S Van Brunt St, Englewood, NJ carries Warhammer 40,000 kits and Citadel paints, and runs paint-and-build nights where you can get help with your first models.
Which paints do I need for Adeptus Custodes?
Browse our Citadel paints for the full range of bases, layers, shades and contrast paints. New to painting? Start with our Citadel paint types explained guide.
Do you carry the Adeptus Custodes Codex?
Yes — the Codex Adeptus Custodes (hardback) is on this page, and the 2026 softback Codex is listed for pre-order when available.

+ About Adeptus Custodes
Adeptus Custodes for Warhammer 40,000 at Saga Concepts: Custodian Guard, Custodian Wardens, Shield-Captains, Vertus Praetors, Sisters of Silence, vehicles, the Codex and the Combat Patrol box.
The Adeptus Custodes are the Emperor's personal guard: a small number of golden-armoured warriors, each worth a squad of lesser soldiers. On the table that means a small, elite army with few models to build and paint, which makes Custodes one of the quickest 40K armies to get table-ready. New to Adeptus Custodes? The Combat Patrol box is the usual place to start.

The 2026 Custodes wave
Games Workshop's October 2026 Adeptus Custodes release added Aquilon Terminators, Gyrfalcon Jetbikes, the Telemon Heavy Dreadnought and the Pallas Grav-Attack, plus a new Codex and Combat Patrol, with the new kits usable in both Warhammer 40,000 and The Horus Heresy. Those kits are listed on our Legio Custodes page (the Pallas Grav-Attack is in stock now). Read the full breakdown: The Ten Thousand Return: new Adeptus Custodes models.
