Shades are thin, flowing washes. Brush one over a basecoated model and it runs into the recesses and creases, adding depth and definition in minutes. It is one of the quickest ways to make a freshly painted mini look finished.
How to use it
- Apply over a dry basecoat with a soft brush and let it settle into the recesses rather than scrubbing it around.
- Wick away any puddles on flat areas so it dries without tide marks.
- Let it dry fully, then highlight the raised areas with Layer or Dry paints.

No, Shades are ready to use straight from the pot.
Shade vs. Contrast: what is the difference?
A Shade adds shadow over a model you have already painted. A Contrast paint colours and shades a model in one coat over a light undercoat.
