Arkham Horror Third Edition (FFG-AHB01)
Arkham Horror Third Edition is a board game from Fantasy Flight Games for 1–6 players, playing in 120–180 minutes, recommended for ages 14+.
How it plays
Arkham Horror Third Edition is a cooperative board game of cosmic horror set in 1920s Arkham, based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft. You and your friends are investigators trying to stop the Ancient Ones, gathering clues and finding tools and allies to face what lurks just beyond our reality.
Each round has four phases. In the Action phase, each investigator takes two actions, like moving, gathering resources, attacking a monster or researching clues. Monsters strike in the Monster phase. In the Encounter phase you draw location cards and test your skills. Then the Mythos phase draws tokens from a cup that can add doom, monsters or clues to the city.
Each scenario has its own goals, revealed bit by bit through archive cards, so the story branches as you play. The box has four scenarios and twelve investigators to choose from, and replaying a scenario still gives you a different adventure.
Saga Table Talk
Great for: Groups who love a story-rich team game and don't mind a long evening. Lovecraft and horror fans in particular.
What a game night feels like: Everyone huddles over the city map, arguing about who goes where, and then holds their breath every time the Mythos cup comes around.

Teaching tip: Pick an investigator for each player before you explain the rules. It's easier to learn when you know what your character is good at.
