What is inside each Pokémon TCG product?

Short answer Nearly every product is built from booster packs (about 10 cards each, plus a Basic Energy or code card in modern sets). What changes is how many packs you get and what comes with them: sleeves and dice, a promo card, a ready-made deck, or a collectible tin. |
Booster packs and sleeved boosters
A booster pack is the smallest unit: modern packs typically hold 10 cards plus one Basic Energy or code card, and a sleeved booster is simply a single pack sold in a paper sleeve. It is a fine gift add-on or a first taste of a new set. Best for: curious first-timers and small treats.
Booster Bundles
A Booster Bundle typically contains six booster packs from one expansion. There are no extras, just more packs for the money than buying singles. Best for: new collectors and anyone who mostly wants to open packs.
Elite Trainer Boxes (ETBs)
An Elite Trainer Box is the classic starter kit. Modern ETBs typically hold about nine booster packs, card sleeves with art from the set, Basic Energy cards, dice and damage counters, a player’s guide, divider cards, a foil promo card and a sturdy box to keep it all in. Best for: new players, gifts, and collectors who like a themed set to open and keep.
Build & Battle Boxes
A Build & Battle Box typically includes four booster packs, a ready-made 40-card deck and a promo card. It is built for limited-style play, where you add cards from your packs to a starter core and battle a friend. Best for: two friends learning together, and casual game nights.
Tins and mini tins
Tins usually pair a shiny metal box with a foil promo card and a handful of booster packs, and mini tins hold fewer packs and often an art card. They are cheerful gifts and the tin is handy for storing cards afterward. Best for: stocking stuffers and casual collectors.
Collection boxes and Premium Collections
Collection boxes are themed around a Pokémon or a set and typically bundle promo cards (sometimes a jumbo card) with booster packs. Premium versions add extras such as more promos or accessories. Contents vary a lot, so read the box. Best for: fans who want a specific Pokémon and collectors.
Battle Decks and theme decks
A Battle Deck (including League Battle Decks) is a complete, ready-to-play 60-card deck built around a featured Pokémon, and older theme decks worked the same way. A 60-card deck is the standard size for regular play, so you can start a game without buying anything else. Best for: brand-new players and kids, or anyone who wants to play now.
Booster Displays (booster boxes)
A Booster Display is a sealed box of 36 booster packs from a single expansion. It gives the lowest cost per pack of the sealed options and the best chance to chase a whole set. Best for: collectors, set-completers and groups who want to open packs together.

Which one is right for me?
If you are a new player
Start with a Battle Deck if you want to play right away, or an Elite Trainer Box if you want the full “first day” kit. Add a few sleeves and a deck box and you are set.
If you are buying a gift for a kid
Tins and Booster Bundles are easy, cheerful gifts, and an Elite Trainer Box feels like a real present. For a child who has never played, a Battle Deck is a great first step because it works right away. Check the age recommendation printed on the box.
If you are a collector
Booster Displays and Collection boxes are where collectors live: more packs, guaranteed promos, and a sealed product to display. Many collectors also pre-order upcoming sets from our TCG pre-orders.
If you are a competitive player
You will usually build a 60-card deck of your own, so packs and a Battle Deck as a base to upgrade are both useful. Booster Bundles and Displays are good for pulling the cards you need, and protective card sleeves are a must.
