Dungeons & Dragons is officially crossing over with World of Warcraft. Announced at Gen Con 2026, it's a 256-page D&D hardcover packed with Azeroth species, subclasses, monsters, spells, and character stat blocks—with pre-orders already open and a wide release on November 17. It's D&D's first official "Universes Beyond"–style crossover book. Brandon Sanderson has been on Wizards' radar for Magic. In his own words, Wizards reached out early in the Universes Beyond initiative. He's said he'd want to do a full-blown set (not just a Secret Lair) and would fly to Seattle to be hands-on—but he "didn't hear back." He's also written a Magic novella and turned up at Wizards HQ. Universes Beyond is Magic's biggest engine. Hasbro and Wizards have leaned hard into crossovers because they sell a lot. That's the backdrop for everything below. |

Here's the fun leap: if D&D just got the keys to Azeroth, could Magic be next in line? Wizards owns both D&D and Magic, so the relationship with Blizzard's world is already open. Imagine a Play Booster set of Illidan, Sylvanas, Thrall, and Arthas—the mind reels.
The catch: Hearthstone. Blizzard's own hit card game lives in Warcraft lore, so licensing WoW to a "rival" card game is trickier than licensing it to a roleplaying game. But there's a precedent—Marvel had its own digital card game (Marvel Snap), and Wizards still landed the Marvel Universes Beyond crossover. So it's not impossible… just complicated. Rumor status: plausible, unconfirmed.

Now for the dream that lives rent-free in every planeswalker's head: a Legend of Zelda Universes Beyond set. A Master Sword equipment card. A Link commander. Ganon as the boss you build your whole deck to beat. The fan mock-ups are gorgeous—and entirely unofficial.
Reality check: Nintendo is famously protective of its icons and rarely licenses them out for other companies' games. This is the biggest long shot on the list—pure fan wishcasting for now. But with crossovers becoming the norm and Hasbro clearly hungry for big IPs, never say never. Rumor status: highly speculative.

RUMOR · THE WILDCARD Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere |
This is the one with the most smoke. Fantasy megastar Brandon Sanderson has openly said Wizards approached him early about Universes Beyond, that he'd want a full set, and that he'd fly out to be involved. He's written a Magic novella and shown up at Wizards HQ—catnip for a fanbase that's convinced a Cosmere crossover (Mistborn, Stormlight Archive) is inevitable.

Our take If we had to rank the odds today: Sanderson's Cosmere feels most likely; a Warcraft set is a fun maybe (Hearthstone permitting); and Zelda is the moonshot we'd trade a foil Black Lotus for. None are confirmed—but the fact that we can even argue about it tells you how far Universes Beyond has come. |
