Ghazghkull Thraka, Prophet of the Waaagh, Warhammer 40,000 Orks

Ghazghkull Thraka — the Beast of Armageddon gets a Primarch-sized glow-up in the new codex.

Every 40K edition has that one codex that makes the whole shop louder. This time it's the Orks — and honestly, that's exactly how it should be.

Codex: Orks lands with a reworked Waaagh! army rule, 15 detachments you can mix and match, and a wave of new plastic: a completely new Boyz kit, new Nobz, and new Warbikers. Pre-orders are live now—and if you already have a green horde in your case, the new rules are about to make a lot of your shelf very relevant again.

Everything below the fold: what's actually new in the book, the new kits to grab, and which existing Ork units we think come out of this codex swinging—all in our Orks collection.

What's actually new in Codex: Orks

The Waaagh! never stops — get riled up

The new Waaagh! army rule lets every Ork unit re-roll advance rolls, and introduces a new status: riled up. A riled up unit gets a 5+ invulnerable save, Assault on its ranged weapons, and can charge after advancing. You trigger it with the once-per-battle War Cry — but here's the big change: multiple Ork characters can rile up units turn after turn. One explosive turn no longer means your opponent is safe for the rest of the game.

Ghazghkull goes full Primarch

The Beast of Armageddon is now an outrageously powerful monster of a datasheet — Lone Operative near friendly units, a Prophet of da Great Waaagh! aura, a new Torrent profile on Mork's Roar, and a once-per-game ability to rile up nearby mobs. Boyz get Never Too Busy to Fight (fight and do mission actions at the same time), shootas gain Lethal Hits against anything that isn't a Monster or Vehicle, and specialised weapons pick up new Hunter profiles that are dead killy against exactly the right prey.

15 detachments — build your perfect Waaagh!

One big classic detachment (War Horde) plus fourteen focused one-pagers, and the new edition lets you mix and match them: Green Tide, Bully Boyz, Taktikal Brigade, Wreckas (your Warboss can wear a pirate hat), Da Big Hunt, Madcap Meks, Dread Mob, Blitz Brigade, Kult of Speed, Flyboyz, Wurrband, Runt Swarm (bring 20 dead Gretchin back with Infested War Zone), Shoota Boyz (with the honestly-named Never Enough Dakka stratagem), and Brute Bosses. The code in your codex also unlocks ongoing content drops in the 40K app for the life of the edition.

Which detachment are you building?

Green Tide / Shoota Boyz → the new Boyz kit, as many as you can carry. Bully Boyz / Brute Bosses → new Nobz + a Warboss. Kult of Speed / Flyboyz → new Warbikers, Deffkoptas, and the Boosta-blasta. Dread Mob / Madcap Meks → Gorkanaut and every walker you own. Wreckas → the Wrecka Krew box. And whatever you build, it needs paint — Citadel range here. Not sure? Come into the shop and argue about it with us — that's half the hobby.
