Every hobbyist knows the feeling: you open a fresh hero kit, lay the sprue on the desk, and realize there's more than one way to put this commander together. In the StarCraft: Tabletop Miniatures Game from Archon Studio, several of the hero kits come with alternate poses and build options, and the instructions show you each one.

Here's the fun part: poses don't change the rules. Your Artanis plays the same on the table however you build him. So this is purely about the joy of the build and how your hero looks at the head of your army. And if you're a completionist? It's a great excuse to build every version.

Here's what each hero kit offers.

Artanis & Pylon: Four Poses in One Box

StarCraft TMG Protoss Artanis and Pylon hero expansion

Artanis is the best hero kit for pose fans. One sprue gives you four poses, and reviewers say you could probably mix and match parts into even more. The box also includes a scenic base and the Pylon, which Artanis uses to warp in his forces.

  • Poses: 4, with all parts on one sprue
  • Extras: scenic base and Pylon
  • Collector move: build four Artanis models for a display shelf showing the Hierarch in every stance

Jim Raynor & Point Defense Drone: Pick His Loadout

StarCraft TMG Terran Jim Raynor and Point Defense Drone hero expansion

Jimmy comes with plenty of choices. You get two arm sets, one holding a commando rifle and one holding a sniper rifle. You also get a handful of extras that let you build him to match how you remember him from the games.

  • Arm sets: commando rifle or sniper rifle
  • Optional extras: holstered pistol, clear visor, rifle bayonet
  • Bases: two scenic bases in the box
  • Collector move: build one Raynor with each rifle, so you have both the up-close brawler and the long-range marksman

Zeratul: Now You See Him

StarCraft TMG Protoss Zeratul hero expansion set

Zeratul has the coolest trick of any hero kit so far. You can build him entirely from clear plastic, so he looks cloaked. You can also build him in standard plastic, or mix the two so he looks like he's stepping out of the shadows to strike. The instructions color-code the different pose options, and the clear parts are treated so they won't yellow over time.

  • Build styles: fully cloaked (clear), standard, or half-cloaked (mixed)
  • Extras: two clear psi-blades and a detailed base
  • Collector move: a cloaked Zeratul next to a standard Zeratul makes a great display pair

Kerrigan & Omega Worm: One Iconic Pose

StarCraft TMG Zerg Kerrigan and Omega Worm hero expansion

To be upfront: the Queen of Blades has one pose. Her kit is a single sprue with no alternate parts. Where you do get a choice is how you display her. She can stand on her scenic base, or you can perch her on the Omega Worm's upper jaw and have her rise out of the ground with the Swarm.

  • Poses: 1
  • Display choice: scenic base, or riding the Omega Worm

Jim Raynor Terran 2 rifle arm sets, plus pistol, visor and bayonet
Zeratul Protoss Clear, standard or mixed build
Kerrigan Zerg 1 pose, 2 display options

Tips Before You Glue

  • Pick your pose first. Read through the whole instruction sheet before you clip anything. Parts for different poses sit side by side on the sprue.
  • Dry-fit everything. Hold the arms and head in place before gluing so you can see how the pose reads from the front.
  • Use clear-parts glue on Zeratul. Regular plastic glue and super glue can fog clear plastic, so a glue made for clear parts keeps his cloak crisp.
  • Bring it to the table. Stop by the store and show us. We love seeing what you build, and someone's always happy to help with a tricky step.
