There's something special about putting your favorite Marvel characters on the table and actually playing them. Marvel: Crisis Protocol from Atomic Mass Games is a tactical miniatures game where you take command of legendary heroes and villains, build your team and battle it out. And with two brand-new Starter Sets on our shelves, there's never been an easier way to jump in.
Here's everything you need to know to pick your first box.
What's in a Starter Set?
Each Starter Set is built as one player's full starting roster. Inside you get:
- 10 character miniatures
- Character Stat Cards and Team Tactic Cards for every character
- Crisis Cards
- All the tokens, measuring tools and dice needed to play
The miniatures come unassembled and unpainted, so part of the fun is building and painting your team. The game is for 2 players, ages 14+.
The X-Men Starter Set
Shop the X-Men Starter Set (CP271EN)
Heroes and villains in one box. You get the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants together:
- X-Men: Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Beast, Rogue, Gambit
- Brotherhood: Magneto, Toad, Mystique, Sabretooth
Pick this if: you grew up on the X-Men, or you want the flexibility of heroes and villains in a single roster.
The Spider-Foes Starter Set
Shop the Spider-Foes Starter Set (CP272EN)
Spider-Man's rogues gallery takes to the streets of New York with one goal: swat down the spider! The roster:
- Green Goblin, Kraven the Hunter, the Lizard, Mysterio, Shocker
- Sandman, Carnage, Rhino, Vulture, Electro
Pick this if: you love a good villain team-up, or you're a Spider-Man fan who's always rooted for the bad guys a little.
The easy answer: grab one each
Since each Starter Set is one player's roster, the simplest way to start is X-Men vs. Spider-Foes. You take one, a friend takes the other, and you're both ready for your first game with no extra shopping list.
Already playing? Check before you buy
These sets collect earlier releases, so veterans may already own some of the characters:
- X-Men Starter Set collects CP60 (Gambit & Rogue), CP139 (X-Men Affiliation Pack) and CP140 (Brotherhood of Mutants Affiliation Pack).
- Spider-Foes Starter Set collects CP50, CP98, CP156 and CP148, excluding Doctor Octopus.
Get your team table-ready
Because the miniatures come unpainted, painting is half the hobby. If you're new to it, The Army Painter Speedpaint is the quickest way to a finished team: one coat does base, shade and highlight together.
FAQ
Do I need anything else to play?
Each Starter Set includes the miniatures, cards, tokens, measuring tools and dice needed to play. For a two-player game, each player brings a roster, so two Starter Sets is the easiest setup.
Do the miniatures need assembly?
Yes. They come unassembled and unpainted.
Which Starter Set is better for beginners?
Both are built for new players. Pick the characters you're most excited about. That's what keeps you painting and playing.
