Every adventurer remembers their first set of dice. Maybe it was a glittery set that caught your eye across the shop, or a hand-me-down set from the friend who talked you into your first session. Either way, dice are personal, and picking yours is half the fun.
But if you're new to tabletop RPGs, the dice wall can be a lot. What's a d%? Do you need 7 dice or 11? Why are some dice half one color and half another? This guide walks you through it, and the quiz below will point you to a set that fits how you play.

Find Your Dice
Two quick questions. Tap an answer to roll for initiative.
1. What are you shopping for?
My first set (or my first character)
Start with a 7-piece set. It covers every roll in Dungeons & Dragons 5e, Pathfinder and most RPGs.
2. Pick your vibe:
✨ Sparkle and swirl
Your match: Aether Dice. Up to four colors of translucent resin swirled together, packed with glitter. Love maximum shine? Try Holographic Dice too.
🐾 Something cute or quirky inside
Your match: Inclusion Dice. Each die has a tiny object set inside the resin: puppies, cats, pizza, dragon eggs, sea turtles and more.
🎯 Bold and easy to read
Your match: Halfsies Dice. Cast half-and-half in two colors, with the high and low numbers on opposite halves so you can read your roll at a glance.
🔮 A little bit of magic
Your match: Chromomancy or Radiant Dice. Chromomancy dice shift color as they warm in your hand. Radiant dice glow in the dark, made for late-night sessions.
🎨 Art for the table
Your match: Van Gogh Dice. Sets inspired by The Starry Night, Irises, Self Portrait and Autumn Garden.
🤫 Soft, quiet, and kid-friendly
Your match: Anti-Stress Dice. Food-grade silicone instead of resin: squeezable, bouncy and quiet on the table, with pre-inked numbers that won't rub off.
An upgrade for a set I already love
Your match: an 11-piece set. It's the standard 7 dice plus three extra d6 and a second d20, so you can roll Sneak Attack damage or advantage in one throw. Need even more? Grab a matching 12d6 or 10d10 pack.
A gift (and I don't know their style)
Your match: Mystery Dice. A surprise 7-piece set picked from over 100 Gate Keeper designs, so the reveal is part of the gift. For stocking stuffers, Mighty Tiny Dice pack a full 7-piece set into a mini size.
Something the whole table will notice
Your match: Random EnCounter. One oversized 58mm d20 in soft silicone. It's perfect for the GM's big moments, a natural 20, or a desk toy between sessions.
What's in a dice set?
Most tabletop RPGs, including Dungeons & Dragons, use seven kinds of dice. A standard 7-piece set gives you one of each:
- d4: the little pyramid. Daggers, magic missile, and healing potions.
- d6: the classic cube. Shortswords, fireballs and sneak attacks.
- d8: longswords and many spells.
- d10: heavier weapons and big spells.
- d% (percentile die): a d10 marked 00 to 90. Roll it with the regular d10 to get a number from 1 to 100.
- d12: the greataxe's favorite die.
- d20: the star of the show. Attacks, saving throws and skill checks all start here.
7-piece, 11-piece, or a dice pack?
7-piece set: everything you need to play. Start here.
11-piece set: the 7 plus three extra d6 and a second d20. Great for rogues, spellcasters and anyone who rolls with advantage a lot.
12d6 or 10d10 packs: a pile of matching dice for big damage rolls and dice-pool games like Vampire: The Masquerade.
Why Gate Keeper Games dice?
Gate Keeper Games makes resin dice in dozens of styles, from glittery Aether to half-and-half Halfsies to Inclusion dice with tiny objects set inside, plus soft silicone Anti-Stress dice. There's a set for every character concept you can dream up, and we carry a big range of them.
Keep them safe between sessions
Once you've found your dice, give them a home. The Dice Keep is a hard case that holds a 7-piece set, an 11-piece set or 12 loose d6, and the Array dice bag keeps everything together in your game-night kit.
